How can we help?

Answers to the most common questions about Actually. Still stuck? Email us — we read every message.

What is Actually?

Actually fact-checks what you're watching on your iPhone. You start Actually Broadcast, open any app (a video, a livestream, a social feed), and double-tap the back of your phone. Actually captures the last few seconds of screen and audio, extracts the claim, checks it against real web sources, and shows a verdict with confidence and sources in the Dynamic Island.

How do I set up Back Tap?

Back Tap is an iOS accessibility feature that runs an Actually shortcut when you tap the back of your phone. The app walks you through it during setup, or do it manually:

  1. Open iOS Settings → Accessibility → Touch → Back Tap.
  2. Choose Double Tap.
  3. Scroll to Shortcuts and select the Actually shortcut.

You can replay the in-app setup guide any time from Settings → Replay setup guide inside Actually.

Why does a fact-check need screen recording?

To read the claim you're looking at, Actually briefly captures the screen and app audio using iOS screen broadcasting. This only happens while you have a broadcast running and you double back tap — you start and stop it. Clips are used to run the check and are then cleaned up. See the Privacy Policy for details.

How accurate are the results?

Actually uses AI to extract claims and weigh sources, and it shows the sources behind every verdict along with a confidence level. AI can be incomplete or wrong, so treat results as a fast starting point — not the final word. For anything important, review the cited sources and verify yourself.

Plans, the free trial, and daily limits
  • Free — a set number of lifetime fact-checks to try the app.
  • Free trial — 7 days of full access. It's free account access, not an App Store purchase, and you are not charged for it.
  • Monthly / Yearly — auto-renewing subscriptions with higher daily limits, sold through Apple In-App Purchase.

Prices are shown in the app before you buy and charged to your Apple ID at confirmation. Subscriptions renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.

Restore, manage, or cancel a subscription
  • Restore: in Actually, open Settings and tap Restore purchases.
  • Manage or cancel: open iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, choose Actually, and cancel there. Cancelling stops future renewals; access continues until the end of the paid period.

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, so cancellation and refunds go through your Apple ID, not through us.

My purchase went through but the plan didn't unlock

Open Settings → Restore purchases in Actually to re-sync your subscription. If it still doesn't unlock, make sure you're signed into the same Apple ID you purchased with, then restart the app. If the problem continues, email us with the Apple ID email you used and we'll help.

Delete my account and data

You can permanently delete your account from inside the app: open Settings and tap Delete account at the bottom. This removes your profile and fact-check history. Active App Store subscriptions must be cancelled separately in iOS Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions. You can also email us to request deletion.

Two-step verification (SMS) isn't sending a code

Two-step verification is optional. If you turn it on and a code doesn't arrive, confirm your number is entered with your country code (for example +1 and your 10-digit number) and that you have signal. Codes can take a minute. If it keeps failing, remove and re-add the number, or contact us.

The broadcast won't start, or a check says "no speech detected"
  • Make sure no other app is already screen recording or broadcasting, then start Actually Broadcast again.
  • "No speech detected" usually means the last few seconds had no clear audio. Stay on the content a moment longer, turn the volume up, then double back tap again.
  • If broadcasting still won't start, restart Actually and try once more.
Which devices are supported?

Actually is an iPhone app and requires iOS 17 or later. The Dynamic Island result card appears on iPhone models that have a Dynamic Island; on other iPhones the result is delivered as a notification instead. There is no Android or web version yet.
